The dancing ribbons installation is a proposal for an interactive environment to be placed on a chain link fence. The ribbons, or streamers would be created by crocheting strips from plastic bags into a long strand. Discs and shapes from plastic bottles and yogurt containers can also be inserted into the strands. Part of the attraction of the piece would be how the wind and river breezes would lift the ribbons into the air, playing with them. Adults and children can add to this installation, once they are taught how to crochet the single strand. (It's easy!) The educational component is important; children and adults would learn how to crochet; they would also learn that our throwaways could be used to enhance their environment. The chain link fences around schools could be enhanced with their own dancing ribbons!
